The Nova Craft Prospector 16 SP3 design is based on the original Chestnut Prospector, a true workhorse of the Canadian North and an icon within the canoe world. This canoe feels most at home loaded with gear paddling a remote wilderness lake or river but it also makes a great canoe to load up with the family and head off exploring inland lakes and waterways.
The shallow hull gives a great stability to the boat and with experience your confidence levels will increase. With enough space for two people and a few days camping kit it has to be one of the best all round touring canoes on the market. High sides give you a dry ride through waves and rapids alike by cutting through and deflecting the water. With a symmetrical design front to back this boat is easy to paddle as a tandem crew or paddle solo with loads more space for kit! Novice paddlers can jump in and feel confident for general day trips, whilst experienced canoeists can outfit this canoe extra seats, buoyancy bags or blocks, dry barrels, kneeling mats and thwarts and more to make the Prospector 16 into a very versatile craft for big adventures both on flat water and running waters.
Outfitted as standard with 2 x wood/webbed seats, a thwart and a deluxe carrying yoke - all woodwork is made with ash and finished with a tough varnish finish (not oiled).

Hull Material - SP3 Polyethylene
The Prospector 16 SP3 hull is made by roto-molding three layers of superlinear polyethylene powder. The two outer layers are solid with a foam core middle layer. These canoes are extremely strong and are an excellent choice for river use or general recreational use.
Nova Craft's SP3 is regarded by many as the toughest polyethylene canoes on the market.
Outfitter Model
The Prospector 16 SP3 is a firm favourite amongst commercial operators, schools and canoe clubs due to the build quality and durability.
Whilst the standard wood/webbed seats are very strong and used by many operators, we also offer the "Outfitter" version of the Prospector 16 SP3 with super strong plastic seats.
