A rudder on any kayak helps the paddler to maintain a bearing without having to constantly do correction strokes, this means you can keep a steady symmetrical cadence in windy conditions. This can reduce the fatigue and strain often experienced when having to dominantly paddle on one side to counter the effect of a brisk wind for example. A rudder also enhances manoeuvrability in complex seas or when exploring tight places.

Mounting to the boat is simple, you use nuts and bolts to attach it to the stern of the boat and then pull the control cables through to the pedals, which you place on the bottom of the boat. Press the pedal to change the direction of travel. The rudder can be uphauled out of the water while underway, e.g. in shallow water, and then lowered back into the active position.
