Foot Operated Stern Rudder System

This easy to fit foot operated rudder system will improve control and tracking of your Gumotex Seawave, Seashine or Rush kayak. A rudder system improves straight-line tracking enabling you to maintain a bearing more easily especially in windy or strong current conditions.Mounting to the boat is simple, you use bolts to attach it to the stern of the boat and then pull the control cables through to the pedals, which you place on the bottom of the boat.

Simply set the rudder to turn the kayak towards the wind and maintain symmetrical paddling cadence occasionally using your feet to make minor adjustments as the wind strength varies. This can significantly reduce fatigue or strains often encountered when having to paddle dominantly just on one side. You will also find your speed in windy conditions will be enhanced.

If paddling through complex water, such as a tide race or reflected waves, you can maintain cadence and use your rudder to steer lining up to face each oncoming wave square on with very little effort. Likewise when exploring tighter places such as gullies along sheltered coasts or paddling narrow winding inland waterways the rudder is a great steering asset.
