Mid Sized Playful Composite Kayaks
The P&H Aries has evolved from the long established Delphin with the advantages of composite construction used to tweak and develop the form into a kayak that is an absolute joy to paddle and excels in surf, tide-races and lively waters. There are two models one just over 15ft the other just under 16 so bridging the compact to mid-sized range. With a squared off stern to maximise waterline length the Aries will cover a decent distance while still being agile and playful. There is also sufficient volume to pack enough compact camping kit for a week away and a four hatch design to help you organise your kit.
On flat water the Aries glides well and feels very efficient, as conditions become more complex it really comes into its own. Gently curved chines with well-defined, but not sharp, rails provide precise control for carving turns and an easy release when transiting between edges. The widest point of the hull is situated central to the paddlers hips which is ideal when using body position for edge control. You will really appreciate this hull design when riding along a wave face, running wave trains downwind or playing on rocky foreshores.
The Cockpit is in a set-back location with the front of the seat base a few cms rear of the mid-point and there is plenty of volume up front. This, along with a strong bow rocker, helps bring the planning hull section into play and minimise the chance of purling on steep wave faces, when riding downwind chop or playing in a tide race.
Like many P&H kayaks the rear deck is relatively low profile which is ideal for rolling and the cockpit outfitting makes this a kayak you feel really connected to.
On the fully outfitted deck you will find two large hatches, a smaller day hatch as well as a small 'snack hatch' just in front of the cockpit. There is also a compass recess to take a Silva 70P compass, moulded recesses for deck paddles, a full set of safety deck lines, criss-cross storage bungees and a security bar.
The Aries is available in 5 different construction layups from ultra-light to heavy duty and you can build an Aries that meets your personal requirements by selecting from a range of colour combinations and equipment options. For example the Aries is supplied as standard with a retractable skeg however you could choose a toe controlled rudder system instead, you can choose from 18 solid colours/combinations, you can add metalflake or polychromic finishes. Keel strips can be added and custom bulkhead positions can be arranged, if you would like a sail kit we can arrange that too! Give us a call or drop us an email if you want to discuss custom options.
