Anchoring Chain

Adding a short length of chain to your anchor will increase it's holding power with the bottom. The chain adds weight to the nose of the anchor helping it stay in contact with the bottom, reducing the chance of anchor slip. This 1m length of 6mm short-link galvanised chain is great for use with small anchors up to 1.5kg. You can create a longer length by joining lengths with an anchor shackle.

By using chain on your anchor, you can also set up a weak-link anti snagging system. Simply attach the chain to the bottom of the anchor using a shackle, and run the chain up the shaft of the anchor. Connect the chain to the top eye using a suitable weak-link. Should you become snagged, simply paddle up-tide of the anchor and pull sharply to snap the weak-link, and allowing you to pull the anchor backwards from it's snag.
