Ultra-Light Laminate Canoe Ideal For Touring

The Swift Canoes Keewaydin range of ultra lightweight canoes are popular with couples looking to do some tandem touring or tripping and are looking for an efficient hull design. This sleek shaped canoe not only accelerates and glides well through the water but it makes paddling distance over windy or slightly choppy lakes, rivers & broads easier. Using an asymmetrical hull shape with a longer sleeker bow entry line, featuring slightly more rocker than the stern giving a more manoeuvrable feel. A very rounded chine allows for the wind and waves to roll under the canoe with much less affect on its paddling. The Stern of the Keewaydin 16 & 17 is much straighter, with less rocker than the bow, this give better straight line tracking and allows for the stern to follow the bow around nicely.

Keewaydin 16 Combi: This version of the Keewaydin 16 still comes with all the features above but with a slightly different internal outfitting. Swift add a removable central seat, this gives the ability to paddle with 3 people in the canoe making it ideal for small families, seating a child in the middle of the canoe. It also allows for a better solo paddling position from the mid seat offering a better trim / weight distribution. This is key for solo paddling the Keewaydin as this canoes has an asymmetrical hull which doesn't allow it to be paddled in either direction when paddling solo, as such the mid seating position allows for a better paddle solo in the must use regular hull direction. The Combi variant of the Keewaydin 16 also comes with a detachable cherry yoke to ensure that you can still easily portage this canoe with ease.

The Swift Canoes Keewaydin 17 comes as standard with 3 fixed seats, this is ideal for use as a tripping canoe enabling 3 people to fit comfortably along with some kit for a weekend trip as well. alternatively this canoe has such a great capacity that you could use it for longer touring expeditions where you need a sleek, lightweight, long canoe to cover the distance required.

The Keewaydin 16, 16 combi & 17 range is constructed of Swift Canoes most popular laminate material Kevlar Fusion which offers the best strength to weight ratio and makes these canoes ultra lightweight. A urethane resin system which has been designed for top durability as well as longevity, with a thin exterior gel coat layer makes up the basis of Kevlar Fusion. An exterior layer of polyester with S-Glass and kevlar cloth layering sandwiching the foam core ribbed system finishes off the Kevlar Fusions laminate. This laminate fused with high impact, flexible urethane acrylate resin system, which is then injected during a high pressure infusion process produces the optimal dispersion and laminate consistency.

All UK spec'd Swift Canoes come with a Carbon Kevlar trim as standard. This not only looks fantastic coupled with the superbly comfortable Cherry wood contoured seats, yoke and carry handles but is also a key factor in keeping these canoes ultra lightweight. Swift bond the trim and hull by using their unique process to infuse the hull and gunwales as one part, which makes for a super lightweight, strong & maintenance free canoe.
