Super Light 16ft Laminate Open Canoe

The Swift Canoes Prospector 16 is one of the most popular shapes and sizes of open canoes on the market. Swift's version of the Prospector 16 is slightly different to everyone else with some fine refinements they feel make their Prospector 16 even better. Combining elements from a Chestnut Cruiser and a Chestnut Pal but lifting and cleaning the lines of these canoes and like the smaller Prospector 15 they brought the widest point of the side up higher allowing them to tuck the tumble home in closer to the gunwale, this gives the feeling of being closer to the water making paddlers able to get a smoother paddle stroke with less of a feeling of leaning to get to the water. Rounding the bottom of the freeboard near the chine area with a consistent rounding towards the ends to give a feeling of control in the wind and waves as it allows them to roll under the hull more freely. To give the best entry and exit the hollows as the side flare from these points have been filled and this makes for a really efficient controllable and stable on the water feel.

Prospector 16 Combi: This version of the Prospector 16 still has all the hull features from above but with a slightly different outfitting option. Swift add a mid seat, this gives the ability to paddle with a small family in a canoe with plenty of space allowing a child to sit in the middle. It also allows for a better solo paddling position from the mid seat offering a better trim / weight distribution. While the Prospector 16 does have a symmetrical hull allowing it to be paddled in either direction, and some solo paddlers choose to paddle from the bow seat facing the stern to re-trim the canoe, Swifts mid seat makes things much easier and is much easier with the family in the canoe.

The Prospector 16 range is constructed of Swift Canoes Kevlar Fusion laminate which offers the best strength to weight ratio and makes these canoes ultra lightweight. A urethane resin system which has been designed for top durability as well as longevity, with a thin exterior gel coat layer makes up the basis of Kevlar Fusion. An exterior layer of polyester with S-Glass and kevlar cloth layering sandwiching the foam core ribbed system finishes off the Kevlar Fusions laminate. This laminate fused with high impact, flexible urethane acrylate resin system, which is then injected during a high pressure infusion process produces the optimal dispersion and laminate consistency.

All UK spec'd Swift Canoes come with a Carbon Kevlar trim as standard. This not only looks fantastic coupled with the superbly comfortable Cherry wood contoured seats, yoke and carry handles but is also a key factor in keeping these canoes ultra lightweight. Swift bond the trim and hull by using their unique process to infuse the hull and gunwales as one part, which makes for a super lightweight, strong & low-maintenance canoe.
